Oxygen Contest for wallpapers!
This time it’s up to you show how good you are!
We’re making a contest to completely renew the set of default wallpapers shipping with KDE 4.
Rules are very simple, submissions are accepted until 00:00 (CET) of the 20th August 2007, resolution should be big enough to fit well into bigger screens and images must be released under a free license (that we will decide with you later).
Remember that we welcome ANY type of art, vectors, photos, pixel art, 3D stuff, pizzas…. and you’re free to choose whatever color or style or message you prefer, the requirement is just that the final work looks good (especially remember that it will be used as a wallpaper).
Basically everything else you need to know is already written on the contest website (done by me), which you can find at http://pd.ruphy.org.

For those who do or do not partecipate in the contest, please spread this link [http://pd.ruphy.org] and this announcement as much as you can! News sites, your blog, everything is good, with your help, we will make the best set of wallpapers ever, and we’ll ship it with KDE 4!

Given that people all over the world will be interested in this, I think it would be a good idea to provide the cutoff time in UTC, or at least provide the UTC offset for CET (CST - where I live - is UTC -6:00).
Considering that there’s 20 days time, I guess it’s not a big deal.

I always use 0:01 or 23:59 instead of 0:00 to prevent misunderstanding

No, I will publish them at the end of the contest. This is also to avoid abuses (some stupid guy thinking to be cool already sent us his full collection of porn images).

Hi ruphy,
I mean if they are checked for “illegal” contents you could publish them anyway. I saw here and there comments of people who would be happy to vote for images. This means there could be a community voted winner and one voted by the artists.

Like pete, i would also greatly enjoy being able to vote for the wallpapers.. After all, if they require approval after submission, there are no more reasons (from my point of view) to keep us mortals from participating to such direct-impact part of KDE4, like the desktop wallpaper is.

The problem with letting people wove is that it’s usually a mess wit submitters getting everybody and their dog to vote for their picture.
So the winners end up being submissions from whomever has the most friends. In other words, it’s never a reliable system. I’d rather have an anonymous selection by complete strangers.
Showing the submissions would be nice though.
